The Commodity Manager reports directly to the Procurement Director Springfield and will be part of the sites Procurement teams.
This role involves managing the procurement process, identifying reliable suppliers, negotiating contracts, and building strong vendor relationships. The ideal candidate will have exceptional negotiation skills, Technical expertise in manufacturing site processes and a strong understanding of market trends to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate and select vendors based on their technical capabilities, having a strong understanding of part manufacturing and the ability to translate design requirements into manufacturing needs.
- Develop competitive negotiations to drive cost reduction initiatives with the global supply base, while meeting capacity and quality requirements.
- Manage supplier contracts and long-term agreements with preferred suppliers to ensure that market trends, supplier performance, and future business needs are aligned.
- Collaborate with supporting resources (Engineering, Quality, Global Supply Chains, Logistics, and Regional Teams) to achieve plan, ensure adequate cycle time to procure materials, and escalate critical materials from supplier base to meet customer demands.
- Leads teams in identification of opportunities to meet objectives for supplier reduction, creation of value, supply chain improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop competitive to drive cost reduction initiatives with the global supply base, while meeting capacity and quality requirements
- Identify opportunities for competitive bidding.
- Works closely with the team at the DA production sites and service centers
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in Commodity Procurement and Supplier Development.
- Experience leading two multidisciplinary team comprising an engineer, quality engineer, and expeditor.
- Ability to successfully manage complexity and multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of metal-mechanical manufacturing processes, with the ability to read blueprints and perform cost engineering and cost analysis
- Proven ability to manage and enhance vendor performance in quality, engineering, and on-time delivery (OTD) through KPI monitoring and on-site vendor visits
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.

Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing / procurement within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
COMPetencies
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Experience in the manufacturing processes in a machine shop environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of purchasing-related experience
